HISTORY
Matthew’s Center was founded in 2000 by Mark and Laurie Heilman, the parents of Matthew, a child with autism.  From its humble beginning, serving two students in a local church, Matthew’s Center, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, has grown and now serves over 90 students.

Today, the Center in Manassas houses a private special education day school, an after-school program and a summer camp.  Matthew’s Center also operates an extensive outreach services program that provides in-home training and home-based instruction and has served over 100 families. Matthew’s Center is licensed by the Virginia Department of Education and the Virginia Department of Social Services and employs a full dedicated staff of highly-qualified, trained professionals that specialize in working with children with special needs including autism and traumatic brain injury.

Matthew’s Center has gained the respect of public school systems in Virginia, Washington D.C. and Maryland.  Matthew’s Center‘s day school is currently at capacity, providing year round, full day educational services to 26 students.
